Song (n)

– A piece of music, usually employing a verbal text, composed for the voice, esp one intended for performance by a soloist

– A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung.

 – The act or art of singing

I’m sorry, but my definition of ‘song’ is simple. A song is a  M.U.S.T.

If you haven’t read my last post, catch it now. ( 1*) It shares how I decided to take part of a challenge. That challenge is for those connected in a certain group of other writers that I am currently part of. It is to write a five minute (or so) piece that shows every day this month, not only on Friday as is usually planned. We get to choose a different theme each day or choose one theme to last the entire month. That’s what I chose.

My subject: Songs.

Music means the world to me, as I’m sure it does to many of you. Quite a few songs are more than just sound and entertainment to me. I have specific memories and feelings connected with many of them. That perfect tune from way back when is permanently attached to my heart as it opens up a memory from my past. Many dig deep into what’s  going on around me now as well. My favorites often show how God is right there with me, being He is one of the main reasons behind many of the songs I choose.

The song today is different than the ones that will normally be showing. It’s an instrumental. Being I’m not talking so much about the words of an individual song today, like I plan to do starting tomorrow, I just grabbed this song. There is a reason, however.  I played saxophone in high school, and couldn’t help but love this group, Spyro Gyra.

(I’m that one way up top, second from the right.)

I want you to start thinking of your special songs. Do you have any that stand out more than others? Have fun and share your thoughts about yours, and what they mean to you. Heck, you might tell me about a special song I forgot I also cherish. Who knows, I might play it here this month as well !

  1. I’m a music lover too and have often wondered why God gave me such a musical soul and not the talent to go with it? I’m coming to believe that my writing maybe my song. I’d like it to be for sure. I have over 5000 songs on my iPod and honestly like you, every one of them has some meaning to me. It cracks me up that I can’t remember what I had for lunch but can sing every word of an old Bobby Sherman or Carpenters song from long ago! Can’t wait to read your next post!

    1. You know that old saying – ‘Two great minds think a like’ 🙂
Notes like this encourage me to make sure I fill this entire month with song after song after song.
Oh, and…you said the Carpenters! Makes me now decide which ones of theirs to make sure gets on my list. Thanks!
